Flash CS3 Publish Settings

When it comes to publishing your FlashR movie, all the guesswork has been taken out of the process for you by the Publish Settings dialog box. Let's take a tour of this wizard. To open the dialog box, click File – Publish Settings. The first thing that you will see are the three tabs along the top of the dialog box. These tabs will change to reflect the type of publishing format you choose. By default, you have the Formats, Flash and HTML tabs.

Formats Tab
By default, it is set to publish a Flash swf and HTML file, which is why you have the Flash and HTML tabs available. But you can also publish your Flash project as an animated gif, jpeg, png, QuickTime mov and Windows/Macintosh Projector. As you would expect the jpeg and png formats will be static images generated from the first frame of your movie. In the right column, the name of your published files will be the same as the name given to your fla file. You can change the name and location where the files will be placed.

Flash Tab
Click on the Flash tab. Here you will choose the settings for your swf file. You can use the drop-down menus to make your choices. Most of the time you will want to keep the default settings.

Version – You will probably want to publish for the current version of the Flash Player 9. But you can also choose from the Flash Player 1 – 8 and Flash Lite 1 – 2.1.

Load Order – By default, Flash will read, or load, the layers in the Flash Timeline from the button to the top. But, you can override the default by using the Top Down setting.

ActionScript Version – Choose the version of ActionScript 1 – 3 to match the code you have used in your movie.

Options -

Generate Size Report – This report will show the bandwidth for the parts of your movie. You will use this for testing purposes.

Protect From Import – This setting will prevent others from downloading and opening your movie into Flash software.

Compress Movie – This will tell Flash to compress the swf file, which is good when you have a lot of ActionScript and text.

Export SWC - You will use this when working with Flash components.

The rest are security settings. Unless you are experienced with this, keep the default settings.

Click on the HTML tab. Here you tell the HTML wrapper file how to displayed your swf file.

Template - Use the drop-down menu to choose the type of file you wish to use. Flash Only is the default for publishing to the web. But you can choose other templates if you are publishing for other uses such as Pocket PC 2003, SCORM, Image Map or QuickTime.

Dimensions - Usually you will want the Width and Height in the HTML code to match the Document property settings for your fla movie. So you will keep the Match Movie setting. However, if you want to control the Width and Height manually, you can set the dimensions by pixels or percent.

Quality, Window Mode, HTML Alignment, Scale, Flash Alignment -
The next few controls will set the quality and alignment for your movie.
