The language of letting go As I was packing my suitcase a few months ago I realized I had less than an hour to catch a last minute flight from JFK. As I nervously glanced around my bedroom to gather things that were important, I saw this book and I knew it was taking the trip with me. The book was "The language of letting go", and like an old friend that knew me well, it had helped me let go many times in my life. On the plane, and many nights after I took the book out and starting thinking how important this little book was to me and how it really deserved for me to share it in the hope it could help you as it has always helped me. “The language of letting go” by Melodie Beattie is one of my favorite books. I keep it near my bed, and promise myself I will read one page a day because I know how helpful this book really is and how it positively impacts my mind. Sometimes im good at keeping this promise, other times when life gets busy for me I forget. But something always pulls me back to this book. I think its because like most people im still learning the language of letting go. By letting go I mean detaching from people and circumstances that are not good for us. Learning the language of letting go is about releasing the illusion that we can control others and things in life. Its about focusing on positive healthy behaviors and taking care of ourselves. The language of letting go is about moving away from the bad, and moving towards what feels good and what is good for us. We are all the same in that we are all just trying to get through life the best way we know how. I believe that every human being has something in their life they need to let go of. If you are struggling with something, you are not alone. I believe that there will be many times in our life when we need to let go. Learning the language of letting go, is a lifelong journey. For example at this point in time, im working on letting go of my home. It is a painful process for me. Logically, I know this yet its still taking me time to let go. A few years ago letting go for me was about ending a relationship. In my twenties, I was learning how to detach and let go of a toxic relative. Through three major times in my life, and everyday thereafter this little book has been by my side gently teaching me that there is peace in letting go. I credit this book with developing my strong ability to let go. I have learned so much from this book for the last eighteen years it has been in print. I have taken it out hundreds of times, as it always has a healing effect on my mind and soul. Is there something in your life that you need to let go of? Do you need to let go of a person, a place or a thing that is not good for you? If the answer is yes, this book can help. The book will help you realize that there is freedom and peace in letting go. This book has helped me to develop a strong mind, and strong skills for detachment and letting go. Through this book I have learned the importance of positivity, self care, and forgiveness. If you have something in your life that you are struggling with, the wisdom in this book will help you. I like the format of this book because it is written in easy to read sections that are dated so you can read the passage for todays date, or you can do what I like to do and let the book fall open and read whatever wisdom speaks to you. I always feel that when I let the book open on its own that there is a higher power guiding me towards the topic on that page for a reason, maybe its something I need to learn. Overall I have found this to be a wonderful book, one that can transform your life one step at a time, one page at a time. I hope that this book will help you to learn to let go. There is peace, life and love on the other side. All of these things I continue to learn from this little book. | Related Articles | Previous Features | Site MapContent copyright © 2008 by danielle barone. All rights reserved.
