Timeline Effect in Flash CS3 - Transition

Timeline Effect in Flash CS3 - Transition
  1. Click on Frame 1 of Layer 4 and select the text. We will create our first Transition Timeline Effect. From the Menubar, click Insert – Timeline Effects – Transform/Transition – Transition. This will open the Transition dialog box.

By default, the Duration is set to 30 frames, the Direction is set to In, Motion Ease is set to zero and both the Fade and Wipe are selected. We only want to use the Fade and not the Wipe. Remove the checkmark next to Wipe. Because we are not using the Wipe, the Direction Arrows are not useful to us. We also want the Motion Ease to be slow at the end, which will slow the animation as the text becomes fully opaque. This will help the fade-in transition blend into the fade-out transition. Move the Motion Ease slider all the way to the right. Click the Update Preview button to check our changes and then click OK to create the effect. Flash will add the frames for the effect to the Timeline and rename Layer 4 to “Transition 1”. This layer now has 30 frames.

Now we are ready to add the fade-out transition to the text.

  2. Turn on the visibility for Layer 5 in order to see the text. Right click on Frame 31 and insert a Keyframe (Insert Keyframe from pop-up menu). Go back to Frame 1 and remove the text. We want the text to only be on Frame 31. Now we are ready to fade-out the designer’s name.

  3. On Frame 31 of Layer 5, select the text and click Insert – Timeline Effects – Transform/Transition – Transition. This time, turn off the Wipe again but set the Fade to Out. Also set the Motion Ease to slow at the start. Move the slider all the way to the left. Again, Flash will add the frames for the transition to the Timeline and rename the layer “Transition 2”. This layer now has 60 frames. Click Control – Test movie to run a test.

The only thing left to do is make the Background, Static Details and Bug 1 layers visible throughout this first part of the animation. On the Background layer, click on Frame 60 and insert a frame. Repeat this for the Static Details and Bug 1 layers. Do not do this for the Transition 1 layer.

Text your movie, save your Flash project as blinkie1.fla and go get that cup of coffee.
