Ask me about my divorce -Women open up about moving on - is a compilation of 29 real life stories of women who make divorce a positive in their lives. They acknowledge their own mistakes, their spouses mistakes, but then learn from them and move on. Usually stronger, wiser and better than ever. The women are bold, inspirational, and strong. They do not linger in the despair and helplessness that divorce can bring, instead they are triumphant in their determination to move on and thrive.
In our society Divorce is often seen as an "end", a "failure" or as some sort of flaw in the person who has been through one. We hear that from friends and family and inside our own heads. But this book seeks to help women view their divorces differently, instead of an ending, as a beginning to a new more satisfying and successful life.
Some women take time getting through their divorce, planning it for years before doing it, and some are over it immediately making seemingly rash decisions in the blink of an eye. But however long it takes one thing is for sure, the women who tell these stories are real women, who have moved on to better lives, not just in spite of their divorces but possibly due to their divorces.
Candace's choice of title is provocative due to its defiant disregard for the typical reverence people associate with divorce and it is a welcome defiance because we need more women who can recognize divorce for what it is - a life stage - that many women will go through that is not the end of the world. Divorce is not a death, but a rebirth for most if they just allow themselves to look at the divorce as an opportunity rather than a hazard.
Reading these stories will give you hope, inspiration, and make you laugh out loud. Some of the stories will make you cry, but out of respect and appreciation for what the particular woman went through to get where she is today.
You are never left in despair because the women in the essays, over come. They move on. They become better, more determined, and are positive they would not be as happy as they are today had they not gone through their divorce.
