It's Halloween

Guest Author - Taisha Turner

It’s Halloween is a collection of Halloween poems. Jack Prelutsky, the American Poet Laureate, writes the poetry. Marilyn Hafner’s illustrations capture the poems’ humor. The pictures depict kids enjoying the most wicked night of the year. The picture book is for children between the ages four and eight-years-old.

It’s Halloween contains thirteen poems for preschool and elementary students. Ghosts, skeletons, witches and werewolves troll for evening treats. Jack-O’-lanterns’ grins light the pathways A black cat or two crosses paths. Nevertheless, who cares. It is the night for trick or treats.

Each poem is as sweet as trick or treat loot. So sweet, kids will gobble all the poems in one sitting. Gobble like the contents of a bag of candy. However, teachers and parents will not preach moderation in relationship to Jack Prelutsky’s poems.

Prelutsky has published It’s Halloween’s poems elsewhere. It’s Halloween, Skeleton Parade, The Tricksters, Pumpkin and Countdown are five of the thirteen poems in the compilation. Countdown is a Halloween board book. This picture book places the thirteen poems in one book for kids’ pleasure. The picture book is not bulky as some anthologies. It is the perfect size and weight for a child’s lap.
