Honey Whole Wheat Waffles

Honey Whole Wheat Waffles

  • 1 cup  1%  or  2%  milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2-2/3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 eggs or 6 T. egg substitute

Preparation -
In a microwave safe bowl, heat the milk, water, margarine and honey on high power for 1 minute. Or... place the ingredients in a saucepan and heat to lukewarm - about 120º. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in the milk mixture. Add the flour, salt, and eggs. Mix on low speed until well blended, then mix on medium speed for one minute. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, stirring about every 2 hours.

Pour about 1/2 cup of the batter onto a preheated waffle maker. Bake to a medium golden brown color or until done, according to your waffle maker's directions. Serve piping hot with your favorite syrup or topping.
