Homeworld's Graphics Amaze
You're almost put off by the opening of the game. Using bizarre
black and white animation, you learn about the planet, which you
at first assume is Earth. A satellite has just discovered something
large in one of the deserts, and it turns out to be a spaceship.
A drawing inside the spaceship reveals the location of the Home
Planet.
Perhaps this is more like
Battlestar Galactica
...
After the story brings you up to the launch of a vessel to go
to this planet, you move into the real game, and suddenly the
game graphics are
amazing
. You customize the colors
of your ships, and there they are, in gorgeous detail, moving
around and within each other.
The training missions are well done, helping you to figure out
how to move in 360 degrees around each ship, how to set up
formations, harvest resources, research new vessels, build new
ships. Then you move into real play, choosing one of the two
available sides.
Again, you get a bit of a test run before you "jump" out to the
location of the homeworld. Needless to say, all is not rosy and
joyful after the jump, and you have to learn how to take care
of your ships and yourself rather quickly. The game has a good
incremental level, though, and usually you can learn quickly
enough to keep up with the challenges they throw at you.
The interface is logical and pretty easy to understand. Tactics
and strategy keep you on your toes at all times - and any spare
seconds are occupied with resource management and planning for
any future surprises.
My 10 year old and I both enjoyed this game immensely, and will be
playing it for months into the future. See for yourself what
all the talk is about!
