Age of Empires II: Age of Kings
We've been waiting anxiously for this next cut of Age of Empires - when the beta test program came out, I was up first thing that morning, trying to enter the program on every single web site I could. No luck. I had to wait until it hit the stores to run out and grab a copy.
I had to wipe out some old programs to install this one (it's sad when 8 gig is not enough to hold all my games), and then I went right into the training mission - a predictably Politically Correct "William Wallace" episode.
First nice touch - there's a note there that people who have played Age of Empires can jump right to a certain mission. That's an extremely nice touch for all of us who have played before (for hours and hours) and want to get an overview of the new features without wading through "How to cut down a tree" nonsense.
Second cool feature - the narrator is talking with this great Scottish accent! You go into the mission, and he makes all sorts of comments in the background. All of your minions, male and female, respond with appropriate Scottish responses. The graphics are gorgeous. The music is great.
It was worth the wait. I dove right into playing and at 2am realized that I had probably tested enough for one day. It's everything the old Age of Empires was, and more. The multi-player options are rich and fun, the various new additions like sheep to herd and looms and wheelbarrows are culturally important. There's even on line tech trees and backgrounds on every culture!
Buy yourself a copy, and then let me know, and we can arrange a Bella game!
