The game is very nice and gives you a starting tutorial, by having you work with Tom Nook to pay off your house. Tom helps you through some of the basic starting tasks.

You learn how to change clothes, how to talk with your neighbors, how to post notices on the town board. Every step is clearly explained to you and Tom is very patient. Go through the tasks one by one. It should only take an hour or two - and once you do, you'll be free to explore the entire town as much as you want!
