Oooo, you're learning about upgrades here. Build a loom, get lots of food, the sheep and deer can be "harvested". Yeah, how come those sheep just stand there while their buddies are being butchered?? You go up to the next level, and build your lumber mill. Upgrade your men at arms and build a few. You get two attacks made against you, but neither is very hard to repulse.
