It's neat that once you clear the mines, the commoners start talking about the work you've done. It's something I like a lot about the game - things you do affect what people discuss. Head back from the mines and talk to the Mayor. You get +1 reputation (now to 16: popular) and 900 gp and 100 xp. You'll also run into Nimbuul, an assassin sent by Tazok and Tranzig. Kill him off, and get Boots of Cat and a Ring of Infravision. Nice things to have!

Head back to Beregost, to Feldpost's Inn in the center of the town. If you go upstairs, you'll find Tranzig trying to run off. Face him down, fight him, and he'll plead for mercy. He'll tell you that he's just a messenger for Tazok and the dead Mulahey. He meets Tazok in Peldvale or Larswood, which are east of the Friendly Arms. If pressed, you'll find that Tazok himself stays in the wood of Sharp Teeth - the map will show that this is NE of the Friendly Arms. Let him go.

The town crier is now going on about Bassilus, the madman. Apparently Kelddath Ormlyr, the governor of Beregost, wants him dead and is offering 5000 gp. Time to do some clean-up work in the south before taking on the bandits - they're pretty nasty and you want to be a big higher in level before you face them.

First, there's our friend Silkie. Find Garrick by the Burning Wizard, and agree to be a bodyguard. You go to the Red Sheaf, where Silkie the betrayer offers you money. She turns on her friends, then turns on you - kill her off for money and a potion.

Zhurlong, in the Burning Wizard, wants his Boots of Stealth back from the hobgoblins in the southeast. If you retrieve them for him, you get your money back that he's stolen from you, plus some nice bonusses.

Head to the lower right map areas and begin clearing out monsters. You'll hit "Larry, Darryl and Darryl" which comedy lovers should laugh at. This trio will gladly give you an autograph!
