Dungeon Keeper Hints

At least for the first 8 levels, make tons of imps. Extra imps are good. If you just grab an imp, it was probably doing something you wanted it to be doing. It just figures that way. Extra imps do useful things and do them quickly.

Dig rooms while other things are going on that you're waiting for. You can always tile them later, and the imps just get to them eventually. Rooms almost always need to be bigger - grow them while you're waiting on something else, and they'll be "ready to tile" when you get that annoying "your lair is not big enough" message.

Build your training room towards your enemy! That way, when the enemy comes rampaging towards you, what does he hit? The lunch room? No, the room chock-full of active, energetic, strong muscle-bound creatures.

Make sure the Library is somewhere quiet! Warlocks like quiet. They hate people bothering them. They attack even friends that wander through the library. Make sure it's somewhere far off that nobody will need to go through to "get somewhere".

When those annoying warlocks are done researching, train them! They get nice and powerful when they've trained up. Same with beetles and any other things lurking around. Especially a batch of imps. They're great when they turn into speeding bullets!

Use flies to explore. Drop them on the edge of your territory near water or lava and they'll map out as much as they can get to. Hellhounds are notorious for wandering off and getting into trouble. BAD dog.

Use imps for the "bridge walk". Make a bridge as far as you can, then drop an imp onto it's end. You'll see farther and can keep "bridging". There are all sorts of secret things at other ends of lakes and lava pools if you but get there.

Double-click on something you want to build or cast! One of the most annoying things about Dungeon Keeper is things don't necessarily select when you click on them. Double clicking never does harm and almost always ensures they are actually selected.

Start at least a small copy of each room as quick as you can. You may not need a huge library or barracks just yet, but at least make one so you start to lure the creatures that like that room. Make it bigger later.

Build treasure rooms by your gold veins! Your imps take .4 seconds to dig the gold, then 2 minutes trudging back and forth to the treasure room. Just build them a new one nearby! It saves TONS of time and builds up your gold reserves much more quickly.
