You're told that the Covenant were using forerunner technology to power their city. Truth speaks out while you try to find him and Cortana works on the index. "Forget about the flood" says Cortana. When you get to the end platform, she shoots you up through a beam into the ship just as its closing up. "When you get to earth, good luck" she says as she watches you sail away. Your ship warps out while the battle rages.
That's the end of Master Chief's tale.
