Portal Walkthrough

Warnings Active: Cube Dispenser, Cube Hitting Head, Orb Hitting Body, Orb Receiver

Now you are given a "weighted companion cube" that will accompany you throughout this entire chamber. Pick it up and use as an intermediate step to ascend up the staircase-like section of the floor. Press the use key ("E") once up to pull it up after you. Next, hold it in front of you to block the orb and prevent it from vaporizing you. Make sure that the cube is between both you and the current orb and also you and the orb launcher. Wait until the orb from the second launcher fizzles out and then walk backwards, holding the cube between you and the second emitter. Now you have an open room with three receptors to lower three lifts. Notice also the second crawlspace, full of ominous and foreboding poetry as regards the companion cube. If you wish to enter it, simply use a portal to get in (it cannot be crawled into).

With that done, walk into the first room - identifiable as an emitter and a receiver, with entirely portal-proof walls. Hold your cube in front of you with a flat face to serve as an angle to bounce the orb towards the receiver. Now move into the room with two doors and also two buttons. Place the cube on the elevated button (as you cannot get up there yourself). Leave the other button for now, and make portals to whisk yourself to the top of the pit. Put the entry portal (that you walk into) on the pushed-out section of the wall, in front of the crawlspace. Put the other on the raised section of the pit. Now walk back towards the energy-ball corridor and place the second portal (the one located at the top of the pit, not on the pushed-out section at the bottom) on the scorchmark. Jump back down and walk onto the button; put yourself on the side and crouch, so as not to be hit by the incoming orb. When the orb is in the emitter, take your cube and carry it out of the room.

Portal yourself and your cube up to the top of the pit. Look across the pit and you will notice a receiver at an angle, across from an angled wall. Make one portal on the angled wall. (forming a triangle of sorts between the two spots and the ceiling above it). Go down the now-inert energy orb's corridor, and then carefully shoot the other portal at the other scorch mark (watch your head, as you may be hit from behind). With this done, the orb will go through the portal and light the third receptor. Now pick up your companion cube and jump across the three platforms down to the next segment.

Go to the button and put the cube on it. Then, walk through the open door and press the button; while the incinerator is open, walk out, pick up your companion cube (closing the door it was responsible for) and place it in the incinerator. Walk into the elevator to the next segment.
