Welcome to the August 26th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!
Last weekend, Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo grossed an estimated $2,429,000 last weekend at the U.S. box office. In its second week in theaters, Ponyo falls from #9 to #12, with ticket sales falling 32.3% from last weekend. Currently, Ponyo has grossed an estimated $8,140,000; this makes Ponyo the seventh highest grossing theatrical anime release in the U.S.
On September 5, the first Bleach film, Memories of Nobody, will air during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Check your local listings for the exact airtime.
4Kids Entertainment has announced that the company has to stop streaming episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (the original Japanese episodes of the series we know as Yu-Gi-Oh!) on their YouTube channel, due to rights issues in Japan. Unfortunately, this also means the Japanese-language will also not be available on DVD or on video on demand services. However, the English-language versions of the episodes produced by 4Kids are unaffected by this issue. The company has also announced that Japanese-language episodes of Sonic X (with English subtitles) will be available on Hulu in the near future. Also, the Japanese and English versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX will be added to 4Kids' YouTube channel later this year.
