The Seductive Style of Kölsch
Crystal Clear Kölsch - the brilliance of 18K gold!  Hints of fruit and subtle malt sweetness are balanced by crisp hop bitterness in this balanced blend of hot British Style and chilly German lagering.

Beer Fox Tip of the Week:

Glassware enhances your enjoyment of flavorful beer.  Choose a glass that allows you to see the beer and admire its color.  Hand washing is always preferred, and allows you to rinse the glassware thoroughly, leaving no residual soaps or oils that will deplete the head and lacing.

Choose a rounded glass, one that will allow you to swirl the beer a bit to release the seductive aromas.  White wine glasses, brandy snifters, and champagne flutes are ideal choices.

There are, of course, specific glasses that will accentuate unique characteristics of particular styles in beer - the Bavarian weissbier glass (at nearly 10 inches in height), the chunky faceted glass for Belgian wheat beer, the short footed tulip for Belgian ales, and the pilsner that is designed to show off the color and clarity.

When ordering bottled beer in a restaurant, ask that it be served with a white wine glass.  You will be amazed by the enhanced pleasures this simple change will make.

Beer Fox Laugh of the Week:

A guy is sitting at a bar, enjoying a glass of robust lager.  He carefully pulls a little piano and stool out of his coat pocket and sets it on the bar.  Then he pulls out a little mouse and places him on the stool.  The mouse begins playing a jumpin' honky-tonk kind of tune.

As the people at the bar begin to gather around, he pulls a little cockroach out of his pocket and places him on top of the piano.  The cockroach starts running in circles and singing along to the hoppin' tunes!

One of the patrons says, "Hey, Man!  That's a fabulous act!  I'll give you $1,000 for that little cockroach!"  The guy agrees, grabs his money, and the thrilled buyer picks up the little bug and excitedly runs out of the bar.

One of the other patrons says, "What are you thinking?  You sold off a part of a great act!  You could make millions with that pair!"

The guy says, "Oh, don't worry!  The mouse is a ventriloquist!"

Beer News:

Ukiah Brewing Company, in Ukiah, California - Mendocino County - is the second certified-organic restaurant in the US, and specializes in organic beers.  Ukiah officially released Ukiah Pilsner in cans Friday, January 21, 2005, adding an environmentally friendly twist to their beer.  Cans also prevent beer from being exposed to light, preventing light damage and oxidation.

*****
Alaskan Amber is the official sponsor of the 2005 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, which starts March 5, 2005 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Craft Brew of the Week Award:

Yeti Imperial Stout - Great Divide Brewing Company, Denver, Colorado, USA

Style - Imperial Stout

A blend of 7 different malts, creating booming flavors of coffee, espresso and chocolate cake with bitter middle and intense, chocolate liqueur-like finish and a grand slam of hop bitterness.  Intense! For stout-lovers and hop-heads alike!

Cheers!
