June 22 2009 Mental Health Newsletter

Greetings!

Ever have one of those days when you feel overwhelmed and off-kilter? I had one of those days last week, and I had to tune into the emotional cause of my distress in order to move beyond it.

Once I became aware of the fear that caused my anxiety, I was able to make an informed decision about what to do next. That kind of emotional awareness is an essential component of mental health. The insight you gain through emotional awareness allows you to rely on information rather than impulse to meet your emotional needs.

This week’s article provides questions and tools to activate your emotional awareness:

“Emotional Awareness”
Emotional competence includes the ability to sense, identify, and accept your feelings. If you struggle to understand your feelings, use these questions and strategies to enhance your emotional awareness.

I hope to hear from you soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I appreciate and rely on your feedback. And please pass this message along to family and friends who might benefit from the resources at BellaOnline. Thanks!
