This herbal paste is the base flavor of most Khmer dishes. There is no sufficient substitute that can match its unique and wonderful flavor. Kroeung is commonly used to make stuffings, soup, and stir-fry dishes. This taste is popular in bordering areas of Thailand, and once was popular in the historical kingdom of Kambuja and parts of Vietnam, Laos, and even parts of Burma and Malaysia centuries ago.
