I'll never forget the first time I ate Namya Curry. We were shopping at Chatuchuak Park in Bangkok with our three children, then 12, 16 and 18. This was a delightful market, even then a huge market with offerings of everything from kapi/shrimp paste, to pets and every imaginable item in between. Everyone searched for "treasures" to bring home to friends.
We all were hungry and thirsty after a very hot morning shopping in this very crowded popular market, and settled into a wooden table in an area of "street vendors" selling satey, nam ya, pad thai, som tom and so many other wonderful dishes. We ordered several different things to share and a few bottles of Singha beer and bottled water to cool us off.
Everything tasted so wonderful, but this Namya Curry, a new taste for all of us quickly became a family favourite. At that time a plate of Namya cost just 11 Baht which was less than $ .25 US. Namya is such amazing flavour for just pennies. It costs a little more today, but still well under $1 US. You can make this at home for less than $1 US a serving. Here's the latest article from the Thai Food site at BellaOnline.com.
