April 15 2010 Alaska Newsletter

Hi friends!

Well, yesterday I would have told you how spring was well on its way and how I was seeing more and more signs of impending "Break-Up"! But that was yesterday. Today, we are looking out at a foot of fresh snow and more falling. The only thing that is certain about Alaska weather this time of year is it's sheer uncertainty! Still ... it IS April, and spring really cannot be too far off.

So, to get into the mood; here's the latest article from the Alaska site at BellaOnline.com.

BREAKUP! Spring In Alaska
The term “breakup” is simple and accurate. As temperatures rise and snow melts across the winter landscape each spring, the thick, solid ice on the frozen rivers traversing Alaska begin the inevitable process of breaking up. Ice jams and flooding, festivals and parties - all are a part of "Breakup" in Alaska!
