November 23 2011 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the November 23rd edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • GKids has announced that the company will be screening the English dub premiere of Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror at the IFC Center in New York City on December 3-4, 2011 and December 10-11, 2011. Each screening will be held at 11:00 a.m.
  • Stacy Dodson, the Executive Vice President of The Anime Network, said on Anime News Network's podcast that the service is planning a streaming iOS app for their subscribers. The app will support AirPlay, which will allow subscribers can wireless stream video from the app to the Apple TV and other compatible devices.
  • FUNimation has released a partial list of dates for the theatrical release of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milo in the United States and Canada. A listing of the dates can be found in BellaOnline's Anime forum.
  • The Film Independent series at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art will be screening Castle in the Sky and Spirited Away on November 26, 2011 as part of the "Spotlight on Studio Ghibli" program. Both films will be screened on "new" 35mm prints with English subtitles.
  • Discotek Media has announced that the company has licensed both of the Panda! Go, Panda! anime films for release in 2012. These films from the 1970s were directed by Isao Takahata, who would later go on to co-found Studio Ghibli with Hayao Miyazaki.

There are topics in the anime forum for these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a forum account is free.
