December 28 2011 Anime Newsletter

I apologize for the wrong newsletter being sent out to you today. Consider what you got sneak preview for next week. :) Below is the newsletter that you should have received today.

Welcome to the December 28th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • Time of Eve: The Movie is now available on the iTunes Store in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. This release has Japanese audio with English subtitles. At the US iTunes Store, it costs $9.99 to purchase the film and $3.99 for a rental.
  • Anime News Network is reporting that Sentai Filmworks' license for the Un-Go television anime series will include Un-Go episode:0 Inga Chapter, the film prequel to the series.
  • Viz Media has announced the company will begin simulcasting the Lagrange - The Flower of Rin-ne anime series in January 2012.

In Memoriam: 2011

For our final newsletter of 2011, we will be taking a look back and bid a final farewell to those in the anime field who passed away over the course of the year.
  • Toshiyuki Hosokawa, anime voice actor, passed away on January 14, 2011 at the age of 70 from an acute subdural hematoma.
  • Shoichiro Okubo, anime screenwriter, passed away on February 11, 2011 at the age of 63.
  • Masahiro Katayama, animator and professor, passed away on February 12, 2011 at the age of 56 from pneumonia.
  • Moribi Murano, animator and director, passed away on March 7, 2011 at the age of 69 from heart failure.
  • Seiichiro Ujiie, NTV Executive Chairperson and anime film producer, passed away on March 28, 2011 at the age of 84 from multiple organ failure.
  • Sawako Noma, executive producer of the Akira anime film and president of the Kodansha publishing company for 24 years, passed away on March 30, 2011 at the age of 67 from heart failure.
  • Eriko Kishida, anime theme song lyricist, passed away on April 7, 2011 at the age of 82 from meningioma.
  • Osamu Dezaki, anime director, passed away on April 17, 2011 at the age of 67 from lung cancer.
  • Seichiro Uno, anime music composer, passed away on April 26, 2011 at the age of 84 from heart failure.
  • Nobuhiro Aihara, animator, passed away on April 30, 2011 at the age of 66 from natural causes.
  • Shigeru Okada, former executive and producer for the Toei studio, passed away on May 9, 2011 at the age of 97 from pneumonia.
  • Mitsuki Nakamura, art director, passed away on May 16, 2011 at the age of 67.
  • Tomoko Kawakami, voice actor, passed away on June 9, 2011 at the age of 41 after a long bout with illness.
  • Cassandra Hodges, voice actor, passed away on June 30, 2011 at the age of 28.
  • Toyoo Ashida, director, producer, animator, and designer, passed away on July 23, 2011 at the age of 67.
  • Junpei Takiguchi, voice actor, passed away on August 29, 2011 at the age of 80 from stomach cancer.
  • Jerry Fellows, a co-editor of Space Fanzine Yamato and a member of the early English-language anime fandom, passed away on August 30, 2011.
  • Kazuyoshi Yokota, director, passed away on September 7, 2011.
  • Ken Yamaguchi, voice actor, passed away on October 24, 2011 at the age of 55 after a bout with illness.
  • Kazuko Ute, voice actress, passed away on November 17, 2011 at the age of 84 from a stroke.
  • Michal Friedman, voice actress, passed away on November 25, 2011 from complications after childbirth.
  • Shingo Araki, animation director and character designer, passed away on December 1, 2011 at the age of 72 from acute circulatory failure.
