February 15 2012 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the February 15th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • The New York International Children's Film Festival has added a screening of Makoto Shinkai's Children Who Chase Lost Voices on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 10:50 a.m. at the IFC Center.
  • FUNimation has announced the English dub cast for the second season of Black Butler, which will be released as a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack on April 3, 2012. The home video release will include the five OVA episodes: Ciel in Wonderland, Welcome to the Phantornhaives, Making Of, The Intention of Spider, and The Story of Will the Reaper. You can read the cast list at BellaOnline's Anime forum.
  • Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has licensed Gintama: The Movie. According to the company, the film will be soon be available digitally, with a home video release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc scheduled for later in 2012.
  • Cartoon Network aired a promo during its showing of Pokemon The Movie: White that says the network will begin airing Pokemon: BW Rival Destinies, the next season of Pokemon, on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. ET/PT.
  • NIS America has announced that the April 10 release of Kimi ni Todoke - From Me to You Volume 2 will not include episode 16, which is a recap episode. According to a statement from the company, it will not be included because it "did not contain any new content." NIS also gave some additional information to Anime News Network, saying that when the contract was initially signed with the Japanese licenser, episode 16 was not included as part of the deal because it was not part of the original Japanese DVD release. However, when the Japanese licenser informed NIS America that episode 16 would be included in the Japanese Blu-ray edition, NIS America was already too far along in the production of the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack to add episode 16 to the set. NIS America ended their comments to Anime News Network with, "We fear that we weren't able to fulfill all the expectations of our fans and the fans of Kimi ni Todoke, but we truly support your understanding in this matter and your continued support. Thank you very much."
  • Crunchyroll has announced that it began streaming the Puella Magi Madoka Magica television anime series on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. EST. A new English-subtitled episode will be streamed every Wednesday in North America.

There are topics in the anime forum for these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a forum account is free.

This year, BellaOnline's Anime section is celebrating "The Year of the Dragon Ball" in honor of The Year of the Dragon, by posting a new Dragon Ball-related article every other week during 2012. The third article for the celebration is a review of the Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box Three DVD box set. I have added the Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box Three DVD box set to the Dragon Ball section of the Anime Shop, and I am also featuring the set as an "Editor's Recommendation" on the main page of the Anime site.

In addition, I have also posted an overview article for the Fairy Tail anime series, and I have added words from Fairy Tail to the list of words for the word games at the Anime site.

Here's the latest articles from the Anime site at

Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box Three
Dragon Ball Z: Dragon Box Three contains episodes eighty-five through one hundred and twenty-six of Dragon Ball Z.

Fairy Tail
