March 2 2011 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the March 2nd edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • The American cable channel Syfy will be moving its anime programming from Tuesdays to Thursdays during the month of March. Currently, Chrono Crusade and Gurren Lagann air on Tuesday nights, and will continue to do so until March 15. Staring on March 24, these anime series will begin airing on Thursday night. The following week (March 31), the anime block will start at 11:30 p.m., rather than its current 11:00 p.m. start time.
  • The English dub of Highschool of the Dead will premiere on Anime Network Video on Demand on March 10, 2011 on most cable providers. A new dub episode will debut each week after. The Anime Network's website has a listing of North American Providers.
  • Anime USA has announced that voice actors Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham will be guests at their 2011 convention. Ms. Bailey's credits include Kid Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, Maka in Soul Eater, Shin in Shin-Chan, Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket, Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist, and Keiko in Yu Yu Hakusho. Mr. Willingham's credits include Colonel Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Juugo/Black Zetsu in Naruto, Kanda in D. Gray Man, Akon in Bleach, and Mori in Ouran High School Host Club. Anime USA 2011 will be held November 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia.
  • Animazement has announced that Japanese voice actor Hiroaki Hirata will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Mr. Hirata's credits include Sanji in One Piece, Benny in Black Lagoon, and Sha Gojyo in Saiyuki. Other guests at Animazement include Todd Haberorn (Allen Walker in D. Gray Man) and Cherami Leigh (Road Kamelot in D. Gray Man). Animazement will take place May 27-29, 2011 at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.
  • The Syfy channel's online schedule is listing two episodes of Star Blazers: The Quest for Iscandar on Monday, April 21 at 12:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. Eastern Time. This series is a dubbed and partly rewritten adaptation of the Space Battleship Yamato anime series.

There are topics in the anime forum for these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a forum account is free.
