March 21 2012 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the March 21st edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • Media Blasters confirmed on the company's Facebook page that it "will not be releasing" the Record of Lodoss War anime titles as planned. When asked if the company will be "getting and dubbing the rest of Queen's Blade, Media Blasters replied that "we will do all of QB."
  • Viki, a website that streams authorized videos with crowd-sourced translations, will be streaming Leiji Matsumoto's Ozma television anime series worldwide as it airs in the Japan. This six-episode series premiered on Japan's WOWOW channel on March 16, 2012 at midnight; Viki streamed the series 24 hours later outside Japan.
  • Discotek Media stated in a post on the company's Facebook account that it will "be releasing more Lupin movies and specials in the future after the 1st season is done and out."
  • AM2 has announced that anime voice actor Quinton Flynn will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Flynn's credits include providing the voices of Iruka and Deidara for the Naruto franchise, Kon in Bleach, Marcus Damon in Digimon: Data Squad, and Carl in Blood+. AM2 will be taking place June 15-17, 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center and Anaheim Hilton.
  • Crunchyroll has announced that the site will be streaming Leiji Matsumoto's Ozma television anime series as it airs in Japan. Crunchyroll started streaming the series worldwide outside of Asia on March 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. EDT.
  • Video distributor NIS America has begun a disc replacement program for the House of Five Leaves Premium Edition Box Set. This program seeks to correct a manufacturing error that resulted in monaural audio on the discs instead of stereo. Affected customers can fill out an NISA replacement form that is available on the company's website, and can expect their new discs at the end of April 2012. Customers who order these sets after March 15 will have the set bundled with the proper stereo soundtracks; however, shipments may be delayed until the end of April.
  • The Box Office Mojo reported that The Secret World of Arrietty earned an estimated US$233,000 during the March 16-18 weekend. Arrietty's theater count dropped by 197 as 304 theaters continue to screen the film. The film had a per-screen average of US$766, and ticket sales fell 44.2% from the fourth weekend. With a current gross of US$18,011,000, Arrietty remains the fourth highest grossing theatrical anime release in the United States.
  • Media Blasters posted on their Facebook account that the company plans to release the Squid Girl Season 2 television anime series.
  • France's Annecy animation festival, will be screening Katsuhiro Otomo's "Hi-no-Youjin" anime short, as well as Shin Hashimoto's "Beluga," Akihito Izuhara's "LI.LI.TA.AL," Mirai Mizue's "Modern No. 2," Syuhei Morita's "Tsukumo," and Ayaka Nakata and Sakitani's "Yonalure: Moment to Moment." In addition, the first episode of the Blue Exorcist television anime series will also be screened. Annecy is taking place June 4-9, 2012.
