March 31 2010 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the March 31st edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

*Director Wolfgang Petersen is developing a live-action version of Paprika. Petersen has said that a young writer gave him a script treatment, and the writer will develop a full script if he receives a go-ahead. Petersen's credits include directing The Neverending Story, Troy, and Poseidon.

*Adult Swim has announced that the block will be premiering the Kekkaishi anime series during the May 29-30 weekend. The series focuses on Yoshimori Sumimura, a 14-year-old who is the 22nd Kekkaishi (barrier master) of the Sumimura clan. It is his duty to protect the land from supernatural beasts.

*FUNimation has announced that the company has acquired the license for the Black Butler anime series. This series is about Sebastian Michaelis, a butler who is also a demon. His current master is Ciel Phantomhive, a smart and business-savy 12-year-old.

*It has been announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Oasis are providing theme songs for the upcoming live-action Beck movie being released in Japan. The Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Around the World" is the opening theme, while Oasis' "Don't Look Back in Anger" will be the ending theme. The film opens in Japan on September 4.

There are topics in the anime forum for these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a forum account is free.

This week, I posted two new articles to the Anime site. The first is an overview of the anime series, All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku. The other is a review of Naruto Uncut Box Set 7. I have also added words from All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku to the list for the word games at the Anime site.

Thank you for your support of the BellaOnline Anime site, newsletter, and forum. Be sure to watch your inbox next Wednesday for the April 7th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter.
