Welcome to the April 18th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

All three films will be screened at the Islands Cinema theater.

  • Anime News Network is reporting that S'more Entertainment has confirmed that the packaging for its home video release of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo mistakenly indicates that the set contains an English-language subtitle track, even though the Japanese language track is available. According to Amy Schorr, President of S'more Entertainment, "The episodes were never available in subtitled format and neither Toei [nor] S'more could justify the cost of creating new versions of the series. DVD sales have plummeted to the point where most companies wouldn't be willing to commit the money needed for packaging [and] authoring, but we felt the series was important enough to justify any risk." Schorr went on to say that it wasn't the company's intention to mislead anyone, and hopes the fans will embrace the series and the effort that S'more Entertainment went to in order to create the DVD packages. However, according to ANN forum users who own the first Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo set, the fourth disc has PDF files of translated Japanese scripts for all 38 episodes included on the set.
  • Fanimecon has announced that voice actor David Vincent will be a guest at their upcoming convention. Vincent's credits include Grimmjow Jeagerjaques and Kouga Kuchiki in Bleach, Seiji in Durarara!!, Sakon in Kekkaishi, and Li Xingke in Code Geass. Fanimecon is taking place May 25-28, 2012 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California.
  • Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has acquired the license for the Kids on the Slope television anime series. The company says it will release the series digitally through select outlets "soon," and will follow this up at a later date with a release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
  • Nekocon has announced that anime voice actors Tony Oliver and Chris Cason will be guests at their upcoming convention. Tony Oliver's credits include Rick Hunter in Robotech, Shinbo in Chobits, Ulquiorra in Bleach, and Harry in Gungrave. Chris Cason's credits include Tien Shinhan and Mr. Popo in Dragon Ball Z, Gluttony in Fullmetal Alchemist, Holy Roman Empire in Hetalia - Axis Powers, and Miyamoto and M1 in Yu Yu Hakusho. Nekocon is taking place November 2-4, 2012 in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
  • Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has acquired the license for the Mysterious Girlfriend X television anime series. The company will be releasing the series through select digital outlets "soon," with a home video release to follow.
  • Anime News Network is reporting that Walt Disney Studios is releasing The Secret World of Arrietty as a Blu-ray/DVD combo and as a stand-alone DVD on May 22, 2012. In addition, Castle in the Sky and Whisper of the Heart will be released on Blu-ray Disc on May 22, 2012.
  • Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has licensed the Medaka Box television anime series. The company says it will release Medaka Box "through select digital outlets soon," and will later release the series on home video.
  • Discotek has announced that the company will be releasing the four Saint Seiya movies on DVD. The films will be released under the names Evil Goddess Iris, The Heated Battle of the Gods, Legend of Crimson Youth, and Warriors of the Final Holy Battle. They will have Japanese audio with English subtitles, and the first two movies will be on one DVD, and the other two on a second DVD.
  • Sentai Filmworks has announced that the company has licensed the Queen's Blade: Rebellion anime. The company will be releasing the series "through select digital outlets soon," and will then release the series on home video.
  • Crunchyroll's streams for both seasons of Phi Brain: Puzzle of God have been removed from the site's "Spring 2012 Lineup" page. According to the site, "something happened (out of our control) that needs to be sorted out before [Phi Brain] can be brought back." Both seasons of the series continue to be streamed on The Anime Network's website.
