April 21 2010 Anime Newsletter


Welcome to the April 21st edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

*Carl Macek, the producer for Robotech and a co-founder of Streamline Pictures, passed away from a heart attack on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the age of 59.

*FUNimation has announced that the company has acquired two new licenses from Fuji TV: House of the Five Leaves and The Tatami Galaxy. The company will be
simulcasting both of these titles in Japanese with English subtitles within an hour of the Japanese broadcast; the simulcasts started on Thursday, April 16.

*Bandai Entertainment has announced that the company has licensed the anime film, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. English-subtitled screenings will begin on May 21 at the Viz Cinema in San Francisco. There will also be a theatrical run in Hawaii in the middle of June.

*Aniplex of America has announced that the company will release Gurren Lagann the Movie -Childhood's End- and Gurren Lagann the Movie -The Lights in the Sky
Are Stars- on July 1 in the United States and on July 30 in Canada. Both movies will come in limited and regular editions, and they will have 5.1-ch Japanese soundtracks with English subtitles. However, the limited edition for both movies adds in a bonus disc, a 32-page reproduction of the movie program that was handed out at Japanese theaters, and postcards. The limited edition version of each film will contain fouur music videos from Japan's Gurren Lagann Parallel Works collection.

*The CW4Kids Saturday morning block will begin airing Magical DoReMi on April 24 at 7:00 a.m. The series was dubbed into English by 4Kids, and the first
twenty-six episodes of the series originally aired on the 4Kids TV block in 2005 and 2006. The CW4Kids airing will begin with the first episode of the series.

*Dentsu Inc., a Japanese advertising company that is a significant sponsor of anime, has announced that the company has established an American subsidiary called Dentsu Entertainment USA in Santa Monica, California. Dentsu Entertainment USA is taking over the management of Dentsu's interests in the Deltora Quest anime franchise.
