May 25 2011 Anime Newsletter


Welcome to the May 25th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!


Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • Anchor Bay Films has announced that the company has acquired the rights for the Redline anime films in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. The film will be released by Anchor Bay's Manga brand in Fall 2011.
  • It has been announced that English dub actor and ADR director Chris Cason will be a guest at AniMinneapolis, which is taking place July 8-10, 2011 at The Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Chris Cason's credits include Fullmetal Alchemist (Gluttony), Dragon Ball Z (Tien Shinhan and Mr. Popo), Hetalia - Axis Powers (Holy Roman Empire), Soul Eater (Jack the Ripper), among others. Other guests for the convention include Quinton Flynn, Chris Rager, Spike Spencer, Shannon Townsend, Richard Townsend, YT Cracker, and Dr. Awkward.
  • A subtitled version of the Angel Beats! anime series will be making its debut at Anime Network's Online Streaming Service on Thursday, June 2, 2011. A dubbed version of the series will be aired on Anime Network OnDemand (VOD). While the listed debut date is June 2nd, the start date will vary by provider; check your listings for details.
  • AM2 has announced that directors and character designers Akihiko Yamashita and Miho Shimogasa will be guests at their upcoming convention, which is taking place July 1-3, 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center. Yamashita has done work on Giant Robo: The Animation-The Day The Earth Stood Still, Zegapain, Howl's Moving Castle, Arrietty, Ponyo, and Kokuriko. Miho Shimogasa has worked on such anime as Cutey Honey Flash, Gravitation, The Prince of Tennis, Sailor Moon Supers, Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, and Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy.
  • AniMiniCon Soho will be taking place August 12-14, 2011 at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art. Events at this year's convention include a cosplay party, anime screenings, special guest talks and presentations, and a concert.
  • FUNimation announced at its Anime Central panel that the company has acquired the rights for the upcoming Fullmetal Alchemist film, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos. The company has also acquired the rights to the Is This a Zombie? anime series.
  • Sentai Filmworks announced at its Anime Central panel that the company has acquired the rights for the MM! and Amagami SS anime series. The company is planning to release both series in complete collections in September 2011.
  • SMASH! Sydney Manga Anime Show, has announced that anime director and voice actor Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe will be special guest as its upcoming event. Watanabe's credits include Excel Saga, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, and The Wallflower. SMASH! is taking place July 16, 2011 at the Sydney Convention Centre.
  • Anime Five Cities has announced that voice-over actress Lauren Landa will be a guest for its upcoming convention. Landa's credits include such roles as Arf and Chrono Harlaown in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha/ A's and Kirche Van Zerbst in Familiar Of Zero. Anime Five Cities is taking place June 18, 2011 at the Ludwick Community Center in San Luis Obispo, California.
  • FanimeCon has announced that anime director and producer Mamoru Yokota will be appearing at its upcoming convention. Yokota was a producer for the Air movie and Kanon anime series, was an animation director on Death Note, and helped to oversee the production of the Macross Frontier television series. The convention is taking place May 27-30, 2011 in San Jose, California.
