June 29 2011 Anime Newsletter


Welcome to the June 29th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!


Here are the headlines to come out of the anime industry since the last newsletter:

  • FUNimation has announced that the company has acquired the rights to distribute Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-; the company has the streaming and home video rights for the series. Anime Expo is hosting the world premiere of the series during their convention, which is taking place July 1-4, 2011 in Los Angeles.
  • Section 23 has announced their releases for September 2011. The To Love Ru Complete Collection will be released on DVD in Japanese with English subtitles on September 6, the MM! Complete Collection will be released on DVD in Japanese with English subtitles on September 13, the Amagami SS Collection 1 will be released on DVD in Japanese with English subtitles and the Lady Death Blu-ray Edition will be released in English on Blu-ray on September 20, and Mardock Scramble: The First Compression will be released on DVD in English and Japanese with English subtitles on September 27.
  • The New York Anime Festival and FUNimation Entertainment have announced that the leads for the Fairy Tail anime series will be coming to the New York Anime Festival; the voice actors attending are Todd Haberkorn, Colleen Clinkenbeard, Cherami Leigh, and Newton Pittman. They will appear at the convention for panel sessions, autograph signings, and an introduction to a premiere Fairy Tail screening. The New York Anime Festival is taking place October 13-16, 2011 at the Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan as part of the sixth annual New York Comic Con.
  • Otakon has announced that they will be hosting writer-director Makoto Shinkai as a guest at their upcoming convention. Shinkai's works include She and Her Cat, Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days, and 5 Centimeters Per Second. Otakon is taking place July 29-31, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland.
  • Maiden Japan has announced that the company has acquired the rights to the Himawari! anime series, and that they will be distributing the series with Section 23. Himawari! will be released with English subtitles on DVD and digital formats.
  • The anime film Onigamiden is scheduled to make its American premiere at Anime Expo on July 1, 2011. The film revolves around a war between demons and humans during the Heian period in the former Japanese capital of Kyoto. A 30-minute introductory panel will be held prior to the film's screening.
  • Two anime films that Bandai Entertainment has the rights to will screen at Anime Expo: The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer. Both films will be premiering their English dubs. Bandai will be releasing Mobile Suit Gundam 00 the Movie: A Wakening of the Trailblazer on DVD and Blu-ray on July 5, 2011.
  • Sony Pictures will be releasing the Onigamiden anime film under the title, Millennium Dragon on October 4, 2011 as a Blu-ray Disc/DVD combo pack and as a standalone DVD. The film has an MSRP of US$45.99.
  • Anime Network and Comcast are making all twelve episodes of Highschool of the Dead available to rent on Xfinity Top Picks during July 2011, and each episode costs $0.99 to rent. Also included is a free behind-the-scenes special "Dead and Loving It," which is exclusive only to Comcast customers.
  • Media Blasters has announced that the company has acquired the distribution rights to the Bakuman. television anime series. Media Blasters' AnimeWorks label will begin releasing the anime on DVD in November 2011; the first release will have seven episodes that includes an English dub.

This week, I posted two new articles to the Anime site. The first is an overview of the Demonbane anime series. The second is an overview article for the Pokemon: Black & White anime series. I have added words from Demonbane to the list for the word games at the Anime Site. I have created a Dragon Ball shop in the Anime Shop, and I have added the Dragon Ball Season Three DVD box set to the new Dragon Ball shop. In addition, I am also featuring the Dragon Ball Season Three DVD box set as an "Editor's Recommendation" on the main page of the Anime site
