July 22 2009 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the July 22nd edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

It's been a busy week of anime news since the last edition of the newsletter. Here's some of the important anime news headlines from the past week:

*It was announced that the final chapters of the Inuyasha manga will be animated. These new episodes of Inuyasha will air on Japan's YTV this fall. The original Japanese staff and cast will reunite for the new episodes.

*Afro Samurai: Resurrection has been nominated for "Outstanding Animated Program (for programming one hour or more)" at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards and the 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

*U.S. TV channel Chiller has started airing a Monday evening horror anime block. Titles in this block include Blood: The Last Vampire, Vampire Wars, Ninja Scroll, Tokko, Sword for Truth, and Descendants of Darkness.

*The first Dragon Ball series is finally going to get a new DVD release in the United States. The first of the Dragon Ball DVD box sets is scheduled to be released on September 15, 2009.

*Anpanman has been verified as the Guinness World Record Holder for the most characters in an animated franchise. 1,768 characters appear in the first 980 episodes and the first 20 films of the series.

*It has been announced that a live-action Space Battleship Yamato film is in development in Japan.

*There are now new producers for the live-action Voltron film that has been in development.

I have started threads for most of these topics at BellaOnline's Anime forum. If you would like to share your thoughts and opinions on any of these topics, you can visit the forum by clicking on the link that appears later in the newsletter. Registration is required to participate in the forum, but there is no cost to join.

When it comes to BellaOnline's Anime site, I have posted two new articles to the site. The first is an opinion piece I wrote that examines what the future potentially holds for the anime industry in the United States. The second is a review of the Ranma 1/2 Sixth Season Box Set. Links to both of these articles appear later in the newsletter.

I have made the Ranma 1/2 Sixth Season Box Set an Editor's Recommendation on the main page of the Anime site, and it has also been included in the Rumiko Takahashi anime section of the Anime Shop. And speaking of the Anime Shop, I also added Appleseed and Grave of the Fireflies, since both of these titles have recently been re-released on DVD.

Thank you for your support of the BellaOnline Anime site, newsletter, and forum. Be sure to watch your inbox next Wednesday for the July 29th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter.
