September 30 2009 Anime Newsletter

Welcome to the September 30th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter!

Here are some of the headlines coming out of the anime industry since last week's newsletter:

*Viz Media will begin an online simulcast of Inuyasha: The Final Act on Saturday, October 3. The simulcast will be hosted at shonensunday.com/anime and hulu.com. This series adapts the final twenty-one compiled book volumes of the Inuyasha manga.

*Kadokawa Pictures announced that their U.S. subsidiary, Kadokawa Pictures USA, was shut down on August 31, 2009. Kadokawa Pictures USA licensed several anime titles to other companies to handle the release and distribution for these titles outside of Japan. See the forum post for some of the titles that the company licensed.

*A lawsuit has been filed by three independent film producers (James Young, Ford Oelman, and Mark Costa) against World Events Productions concerning the rights to produce a live-action Voltron film. The suit alleges that these producers had an exclusive deal back in 2004 for the rights to produce a film based on Voltron. It is also alleged that World Events Productions and Jason Netter of Kickstart Entertainment negotiated with other producers while their exclusive deal was still in effect. This lawsuit is separate from the legal battle taking place between World Events Productions and Toei over the rights to the project.

There are topics in the anime forum for each of these news stories. If you'd like to join in on the discussion, there's a link to the forum later in the newsletter. You need to have a BellaOnline forum account in order to post, but signing up for a foum account is free.

This week, I posted two new reviews. One is a review of the fourth Inuyasha theatrical film, Fire on the Mystic Island. The other is a review of the soundtrack CD for Fire on the Mystic Island. Links to both of these reviews are included later in the newsletter. The DVD for Fire on the Mystic Island has been added to the Rumiko Takahashi anime section of the Anime Shop, and the film is an Editor's Recommendation on the main anime page.

Thank you for your support of the BellaOnline Anime site, newsletter, and forum. Be sure to watch in your inbox next Wednesday for the October 7th edition of the BellaOnline Anime newsletter.
