Happy Spring and Happy New Year to all those celebrating the beginning of the calendar year on the the vernal equinox! Joyous Naw-Rúz and best wishes for a prosperous new year.
This time of year has many birthday's in our family, as well as anniversaries of marriages, new jobs, new friends and pets. But it also marks deaths and other losses. I decided a while back that the longer I live the more chances for bad days seem to appear in my calendar--so I resolved not to let anything from my past interfere with enjoying today anymore. Mother, father, husband, sister and grandson, not to mention several good friends, have all left this world in the early springtime. It would be possible to let those many years of losses darken such a bright and promising time of year, but mostly I set aside moments to celebrate their lives, and be grateful for the chance to have them in my life, which for me is a much more joyful way to remember them.
In my efforts to dispel sadness, however, it could be that I overdo just a little....maybe. This latest article from the Baha'i site at BellaOnline.com is a sober look at improving our lives, but utilizes a playful 'authority' as a starting point. I hope you enjoy it.
