July 12 2008 Canadian Culture Newsletter

Hello,

This is your weekly update from the Canadian Culture page at BellaOnline. My name is Melanie Hachey and I am the new editor. You can learn a little bit more about me here.

Summertime in Canada: Canadians love to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. One pot meals are a perfect solution - they're quick, they're easy and you don't have to turn on the oven. This week, I am sharing my recipes for Vegetarian Chili and Easy Chicken Curry.

Visit the Canadian Culture Forum to share your favourite attractions and destinations in Canada; or to let everybody know how you celebrated Canada Day. Any comments, questions, or thoughts you have about Canada, its people, and its culture are always welcome at the forum, so drop by for a chat anytime.

This Week's Canadian Fun Fact

Did you know that basketball was invented by a Canadian? Dr. James Naismith, who was born in Ontario, Canada, was working in Springfield, Massachusetts as an athletic director when he came up with his original 13 rules that made up the game of basketball.

What's Up Canuck? Your Weekly Canadian Trivia Question

This week's question and answer:

What is the southernmost point in Canada?

The southernmost point in Canada is an island off of the southern tip of Point Pelee National Park, in southwestern Ontario: Middle Island. According to the Parks Canada website, the park, which consists of a 16km long point of land which juts out into Lake Erie, "resounds with migrating song birds in the spring, hums with cicadas in the summer, flutters with Monarch butterflies in the fall and is a peaceful place of reflection in the winter."

Do you have a question about Canada? Send it to me in reply to this email and I might use it as a What's Up Canuck trivia question.

Do you have feedback or questions for me? I'd love to hear from you. You can either start a topic in the forum or simply respond to this email.

I look forward to exploring Canadian Culture with you.
