Here are the latest articles from the Exotic Pets site at BellaOnline.com.

Mistaken for Animal Abuse
Unfortunately many well-intentioned individuals – as well as some not well-intentioned – make assumptions regarding an animal’s welfare without knowing animal behavior facts.

Hand-Rearing Wild & Domestic Mammals – Book Review
Raising an animal from infancy is a difficult task at best. With exotic animals, few resources exist that can help an owner refrain from ‘reinventing the wheel’ or experimenting for lack of information.

Set Them Free – Why Releasing Exotic Pets into the Wild is a Bad Idea
Ideally all animals would be able to roam free and we could have interactions with them at their discretion. Realistically, however, we rarely encounter exotic wildlife or live lifestyles where natural interactions between animals and humans occur.

The holidays are over and I am still struggling to get back on track. We had a family member with Alzheimer’s move in with us temporarily. Feisty, our favorite Muscovy duck, was attacked by a hawk right in front of us. She’s certainly lived up to her name – battling aspergillosis several times, now rallying from this attack. It’s not an easy recovery; she’s had daily injections of antibiotics, irrigation of her wounds, anti-inflamatories to soothe her throat (which was nearly punctured), and her vision is still blurry (there was a puncture behind her left eye). She doesn’t give up and neither will we.

Have a great week!
