January 7 2012 German Culture NewsletterThe latest article from the German Culture site at BellaOnline.com features an image of Germany that is recognised worldwide: COLOGNE CATHEDRAL It is a magnificant sight now as it stands by the Rhine River dominating the Cologne skyline, but the Cologne Cathedral took over 600 years to complete. Construction on the gothic cathedral had begun when Cologne was part of the Holy Roman Empire, but it was not finished until 1880 when 'Koeln' was a city belonging to a newly United Germany, with Wilhelm I as the first German Emperor. Today the 'Koeln Dom' is one of the country's most important architectural monuments. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art174622.asp germanculture.bellaonline.com has much more content covering life, living and the culture of Germany, and a forum: http://forums.bellaonline.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=247 Hope to hear from you either in the forum, or via email, if you have any comments, questions or ideas for topics.
