German Fact-of-the-Week

Germany's Chancellor, Angela Merkel, was re-elected last weekend in the federal election held on Sunday, September 27. Her party, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), in partnership with Bavaria's Christian Social Union (CSU), won 34% of the vote. Merkel will form a coalition government, this time with the Free Democratic Party (FDP), which won 14% of the vote. Guido Westerwelle, the leader of the FDP, is expected to become Vice Chancellor. But the talks aren't over yet, so stay tuned. ... And congratulations to Angela Merkel. Frauen Power!
