Music in Germany covers an exciting range of styles and tastes.

Although the country's reputation as musical nation is still based on names like Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Handel students from around the world flock to its music academies, and music lovers attend the festivals, but its music was always innovative, and the recent founding of a “Pop Academy” in Mannheim continues this tradition.

Now considered 'classical' Ludwig van Beethoven, the composer and pianist, was thought of as revolutionary in his lifetime.

An iconic German born composer and child prodigy he broke new ground in Western classical music, and continued to produce musical masterpieces even when profoundly deaf.
