German Fact-of-the-Week

The question in my last newsletter was about 16 federal states. Which are cities and not states? The answer is a bit confusing. The state of Bremen is in fact a state but with only two cities: Bremen and Bremerhaven. Hamburg is a city-state unto itself. Berlin is the capital city and is a state unto itself.

This week's German fact: The Zugspitze is the highest mountain in the Bavarian Alps at 2962 meters or 9718 feet. It can be reached by two cable cars (one from Germany and one from Austria) or the cogwheel train that leaves from Garmish-Partenkirchen in Upper Bavaria.
