Du or Sie? How to address someone in German

In Germany there are two acceptable ways to address someone using the word "you": by using "du" or "Sie". You may ask if it really makes a difference... in most cases, it really, really does!

German Fact-of-the-Week

The voting age in Germany is 18. Germany's next federal election is on September 27, 2009. The current Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is being challenged by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who currently holds the position of Foreign minister and Vice-chancellor. Merkel's CDU party and Steinmeier's SPD party formed a coalition after the last election.
