January 4 2007 Horses Newsletter

Hello and Happy New Year to all my newsletter readers! I have been a bit out of sorts due to a car accident that I was unfortunately involved in, and articles had to be put off for a while. Some days I wish that the time of the horse-drawn carriage were not over; it was much safer than our modern horseless carriage times! Anyway, I am on the mend and ready to tackle a new year.

I hope your year-end holidays were enjoyable and that you made some good resolutions (to ride more often? to observe your horse and see what he's trying to tell you?).

I made one resolution in particular. I often have queries on my site that are slightly misspelled. Therefore, as a project for 2007, I plan on creating a glossary of common horse terms so that people can find information even faster and easier. It will be located in the subject heading entitled FAQs. That way, when you want to know what a Flehmen response is and are not sure how it's spelled, you can visit that area. It shall be an ongoing project and will start with a few terms and grow over the year. Got a term you think should be added, or for which you'd like an explanation? Email it to me via the Contact Me section of the site.

Here's the latest article from the Horses site at BellaOnline.com.

Bomb Proofing a Horse
Horses are flight animals, whose very existence depends on recognizing danger and fleeing from it. However, to make a good mount, a horse needs to resist these instincts and trust its owner. Learn what is involved in the desensitivity training that helps a horse to become "bomb proof."

The Adoption Link will return next newsletter, and I plan to put up some articles on nutrition in the coming weeks. Take care, and see you around the barn.
