Financial Markets Summary for the Week Ending May 16,2008

The major US stock market averages had a good week this past week. They rose by over 3% each. The three sectors of the market showing the strongest gains were: materials,energy,and technology.
Overseas markets also enjoyed a good week with gains led by commodity-related markets such as: Brazil,Canada,Australia,and Norway.
In the Currency markets,on Friday the US dollar plunged again. This seemed to end the small rally it enjoyed the past few weeks.
This plunge in the US dollar renewed very strong buying the Commodity markets. Most commodities had a good week and led again by oil which set another record high on Friday.
