Hello Nurses and all those who love and support nurses!
I apologize that my newsletter and my newest article are late. I had a family emergency to handle, but all is well now and I am back. I will be posting a new article on which I am finishing up no later than Monday. Then I'll be back on my weekly schedule.
Over the past week, the first article listed on the Nursing Site has been concerning Horizontal Violence and Incivility in Nursing. What are your thoughts about this vital issue? How do you think nursing can deal with this issue and end the "tradition" of "eating our young"?
The next article to be posted will be on taking care of the most important person in health care - you! The article focuses on how we need to remember to care for ourselves. If we don't take care of ourselves, who will care for our patients or for our families? I hope you will read it with an eye to caring for yourself and also let me know ways in which you take time out each day to care for yourself.
This week's question: How do you take care of yourself, to keep your energy levels up and not overtire yourself to the point of exhaustion and/or burnout?
Here's the latest article from the Nursing site at BellaOnline.com.
Horizontal Violence and Incivility in Nursing
What is horizontal violence? Why is a caring profession not nurturing those new to the profession? Let's look at some steps to support those victims of incivility or horizontal violence and improve not only morale but the care we give our patients. Caring for others includes fellow nurses.
Be on the look out over the next few days for the article on nurse self-care.
