April 15 2012 Nursing Newsletter

Hello all nurses and those who love nursing or love a particular nurse!

Wow, its so hard to believe how fast the year is moving, it is already April 15 - the traditional tax day. If you haven't done those yet, make sure you get them done. Remember, all your nursing tools can be tax deductible!

Here's the latest article from the Nursing site at BellaOnline.com.

Compassion in Nursing
Compassion and empathy are central to who we are as nurses and who we are as human beings. Recent studies have shown a drop in empathy and compassion in nurses. Let's not let the caring leave nursing. Come explore ways to enhance compassion and empathy for all we care for and care about.

Several recent studies have shown a decline in empathy and compassion in nurses, especially those entering the field as a second or third career. We need to ensure that we don't lose the skills and attitudes which make us nurses - caring for and about our patients is vital and empathy and compassion central to who we are. Rejuvenating one's self can help to rejuvenate and re-ignite the love of the profession, the empathy and compassion which brought us to become nurses.

I apologize that I did not get this week's newsletter out at its usual time. I had a little accident. I am fine now - thanks to wonderful nurses! I think being a patient is always a good way to remind ourselves about how important little things are to patients and how easy it is to forget when we are on the nurse side of the care. I'd love to hear from you about experiences and things you learned from being a patient instead of being the nurse! Let me know, perhaps I can pull them all together and can share them with the readers in a future article.

To participate in free, fun online discussions, this site has a community forum all about Nursing located here -

I hope to hear from you sometime soon, either in the forum or in response to this email message. I thrive on your feedback!

Have fun passing this message along to family and friends, because we all love free knowledge!
