May 3 2009 Poetry Newsletter

May has always brought inspiration to poets, whether because of May Day celebrations of fertility and love or because winter has given away to spring. My May inspiration has always been my mother. This week, we will look at the structure of a sonnet through one that Christina Rossetti dedicated to her mother.

Quote of the week-
an exerpt from Christina Rossetti's poem
To my mother:

Mother, accept, I pray
My offering.

And may you happy live,
And long us bless;
Receiving as you give
Great happiness.
