Remember that terrific mini series The Stand, based on Stephen King’s epic book? Who could ever forget Gary Sinese as Stew, Ray Walston as the Professor, and Ruby Dee as Mother Abigail? Apparently, Hollywood can, because plans are afoot to turn The Stand into a movie. I cannot imagine anyone but Gary Sinese as Stew – and a lot had to be cut out of the book just to make a mini series. It’s going to be butchered as a movie. Read more at

The famous Japanese anime Akira is going to be made into a Hollywood movie starring James Franco. Hmm – he looks a lot older than Kaneda is supposed to be. Leonardo Di Caprio is behind the production – is this man in love with Asian cinema or what? He’s either remaking them or producing live action...

Another remake in the wind is Logan’s Run, the cult British sci fi hit of the 70s. Ryan Gosling will play Logan 5 – no word on who will play Jessica 6, Francis 7 or the Old Man yet, but already the use by age limit has been dropped to 21, not 30 as in the original. Funny, Gosling looks 30…
