Jon Yusof has recently published a trio of tatting booklets, "Elegant Tatting Gems" 2011, "Tatting with Rings (around Cabone Rings)" 2009, "Tatted Snowflakes Collection" 2008. Each of these half-size booklets is 8" x 5.75" (21x14.5cm). Both photos of the lace and the diagrams are in gorgeous color.
"Elegant Tatting Gems" 2011, contains 44 pages. It is a collection of 18 snowflake patterns (6-point motifs.) Techniques used in the patterns include the basics plus two shuttle tatting, floating rings, Victorian sets (node stitch), and reverse order double stitch (RODS.) Although not required the patterns are suitable for tatting in the all front-side up manner. Some patterns may be tatted using a mock picot, split ring or split chain to climb out into the subsequent row, but that, too, is not required. Great patterns with ample opportunity for creativity in color combinations.
"Tatting with Rings (around Cabone Rings)" 2009, contains 32 pages. There are 10 designs created specifically using the cabone ring as a center piece. There are also three alternative type of centers for the cabone ring. The cabone ring is covered with double stitches in the manner of wrapping a split chain. There is a three page tutorial on this technique included. Techniques used in the patterns include the basics plus two shuttle tatting, self-closing mock rings, floating rings, josephine rings, split rings and beaded tatting.
"Tatted Snowflakes Collection" 2008, contains 32 pages in full color. All the diagrams are particularly clear and easy to follow showing both starting points, direction, and double stitch count. These 6-point snowflakes designs use all the basic tatting techniques plus split rings, throwing rings off a split ring, self-closing mock rings, climbing out from a center using the mock picot and split ring. The pattern called, "The Twirly" I found to be quite charming.
Be sure to see her Rose Window pattern, too. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art3986.asp
All of these books would be a great addition to your tatting library. I acquired them for my personal reference library also. G. Seitz.
