Leigh Hunt lived from 1784 to 1859. He was born in England and loved poetry from a young age. He published many poems during his life, but also suffered from financial troubles. Not an uncommon pairing!
Jenny kissed me when we met,
Jumping from the chair she sat in;
Time, you thief, who love to get
Sweets into your list, put that in!
Say I'm weary, say I'm sad,
Say that health and wealth have missed me,
Say I'm growing old, but add,
Jenny kissed me.
How many of us have had this same thrill over a seemingly small occasion - a brief, few-second incident that we treasure for the rest of our lives. We don't get a sense that Jenny thought this was a life-changing event. For all we know, Jenny was simply in a joyous mood and gave a kiss to a man she liked. But for that man, it marked his heart forever.
