The Songstress

Damian Balassone

You were the receptor for a higher spirit,
a great melodious spirit,
and you tried to tap in
and transmit the song to the listener,
but you were sarcastically imitated
by those you unwittingly intimidated,
and your connection was lost
and your song broken.

But if I tune in to my mind’s ear
I can sometimes catch a few bars
of your otherworldly melody
and, momentarily, I am released
from these earthly chains
and two spirits dance in the rain.
