Electric

Leslie Dianne

The man froze
electric
in the middle
of forty second street

a taxi jumped around him
and landed on the
other side of the
double yellow line

a bus screamed
to a stop
and its echo
reverberated through the
hearts of those rushing
to the rest of their
lives

they stopped
to witness
the vibrating dance of the man
who took center
stage in the flaming midday sun
because he still believed
he could stop the turning
of the world
by shaking
out his song
